No hot water + no washing machine = laundry in a bucket.
Today we took turns doing laundry in a bucket. It reminded me of when people press wine with their feet. It worked rather well and we hung it out on the line in our backyard to dry.
The plumbing here is crazy! There is basically no code, so pipes come in and out wherever. The kitchen sink runs out to the yard. But everyone collects rain water and uses it. It's one of those strange things about this place that I love.
Kas had fun exploring the yard today and found several baby coconuts.
Then we went next door for a birthday party. The neighbors invited us when they met B the other day trying to husk coconuts in the backyard. It was a nice opportunity to socialize, although the music was quite loud so talking was a bit difficult. The girls had fun playing games and of course getting candy and they served Belizean chicken with beans and rice- the traditional favorite. Grandma had cooked five or six huge duch ovens' worth! It was incredibly delicious! We had tons of fun.
I am glad to be starting to get to know the neighbors.
