Give Thanks for Janitors

Have you ever given thanks for janitors?  Just imagine your child is in a strange place eating strange food.  And say she feels icky and runs towards the nearest bathroom but doesn't make it and pukes all over the floor.  Who comes?  The janitor, with his mop bucket.  And he says "Don't worry ma'am.  I'll take care of it."

Not here.

We were at the public library when K suddenly was ill.  We rushed towards the bathroom but she didn't make it.  I carried her the rest of the way in, then went directly to the front desk to apologize and let them know what happened so we could get it cleaned up quickly. The woman behind the desk seemed unamused at best and told me to talk to the other librarian who, without even a glance, told me to find the lady with the mop.  I found her, and a few minutes later she brought an old mop out, no bucket, handed it to me and walked away.

Walked away.

So with K in the bathroom, and the front desk lady and security guard just sitting there, I proceeded to mop up the mess myself and rinse the mop in the toilet.

So be thankful for janitors, with most sincere heart.

I know I am.
